About the event

Primitive Bow Course September 2024

Its happening! Two awesome people from Season 11 ALONE who forged friendships in Inuvik are now embarking on a joint venture to bring wilderness teachings and skills to you! Michela Carriere of Aski Holistic Adventures hosts this incredible weekend and Cubby Hoover of Cubbersons Custom Archery is your bow-making instructor.

In our 3-day bow-making class, participants will learn to craft a primitive ash longbow using traditional hand tools. The course covers selecting and preparing the ash wood, shaping the bow, and finishing techniques. By the end of the class, attendees will have a fully functional longbow. Additionally, the course includes hands-on instruction on how to shoot the bow, covering basic archery techniques and safety practices. This immersive experience offers both practical skills and a connection to historical craftsmanship.

This all takes place in the Saskatchewan River Delta, at Michela's trapline. All food is provided along with cozy cabin accommodations. Aski Holistic Adventures creates year round land based retreats and is situated in treaty 5 Territory and Homelands of the Metis. This is her family home, all off grid and unique place to visit! 4.5 hours from Saskatoon.

Cubby Hoover is a craftsman of primitive self bows and traditional long bows.  Using only hand tools, each bow is expertly crafted.

Based in the picturesque Ozark Mountains, Cubby draws inspiration from the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. With a deep passion for archery and primitive skills, he is dedicated to crafting unique and high-quality pieces that are both functional and elegant. Whether you're a seasoned archer or just starting out, you can trust Cubby to provide you with the perfect tools for your next adventure.
